Leland Horace Chupp, age 92, of Lafayette, died at Home Hospital on Sunday, May 25, 2008. Born in Edinburgh, IN on April 12, 1916, he was the son of the late Nathan O. Chupp and Bessie Pearl (Parks) Chupp. His marriage was to Ruth M. Weakley on January 1, 1939 in Indianapolis. She preceded him in death in October 1980. He then married Martha O. Swadener (died 2016) on February 14, 1981 in Monticello. He graduated from Shortridge High School in 1934. He moved to Lafayette and worked for Hayes Jewelers from 1940 to 1946. He opened Chupp Jewelers on September 12, 1946 and retired in 1996 due to ill health. His wife, Martha continued store operations. He was a member and founding elder of Bethany Presbyterian Church. He was a 53+ year member and past president of Eagles Lodge #430, 50+ year member of Lafayette Masonic Blue Lodge #123, Tippecanoe Shrine Club, American Legion, Post #81 in Monticello. He enjoyed NASCAR, rodeo, football, and basketball. He had a great sense of humor.

Surviving are three daughters: Patricia L. Carrillo of Indianapolis, Frances Earlene Justice of Crawfordsville (died 2012), and Phyllis J. Waugaman of Texas (died 2012), and a brother, Richard Chupp (wife, Bonnie) of Danville. Ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren also survive. Preceded in death by a son, Leland A. Chupp on July 1, 2001, three brothers and two sisters.
