Abel was born on September 12, 1932 to Alejandro & Dolores Chapa.

He graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1950. He studied at Corpus Christi State University, Del Mar College and East Los Angeles College. He enlisted and served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. Abel was employed by Nueces County as the Veterans Service Officer. Abel enjoyed participation in numerous organizations such as The American Red Cross, The American Legion Post 364, Texas County Veterans Service Officers Association, Texas Veterans Land Board, South Texas Lighthouse for the Blind, St. Pius X Choir, and St. Pius X Men’s Club.

He was a brother, son, father, grandfather, husband, God-fearing American, Texan, Founder of Chapita Foods and inventor. He was preceded in death by his father Alejandro, mother Dolores, brother Alex, and sister Rosario. Abel is survived by his wife Sylvia, his three sons Mark, Joel and Roel, his daughter Rosanna and granddaughter Andrea. He is also survived by son Abel Jr. and his daughters Laura and Grace from a previous marriage.

Visitation will be held from 5pm to 9pm on Sunday, August 4th. A Rosary Prayer Service will be held at 7pm that same evening at Seaside Memorial Park and Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 11am Monday, August 5th at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park and Funeral Home.
