He died before 1870. He was the son of Thomas Clarke (b. ca. 1772 Orange Co., NC) and Mavil Clarke (about 1767 Orange Co., NC - 3 November 1836 Burke Co., NC).

It appears after trying to read 80 pages of probate records that what happened was Solomon had a son John who died in 1859. Solomon died shortly after John and they combined the probate of John with his Father Solomon.
