She was born June 8, 1921 in Waterloo, the daughter of Fredrick W. and Lula E. Bopp Andres. Doris graduated from Waterloo East High School with the Class of 1939. She was a member of the former Calvary EUB Church in Waterloo. Doris was united in marriage with Kenneth W. Thorson on August 2, 1942 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on August 28, 2001. She was united in marriage with Al Brandt on February 28, 2003 in Marshalltown. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2012.
Doris was a homemaker and had also worked at Black’s Department Store in the credit office. She and Kenneth managed an apartment complex in Cedar Falls for several years and she had worked in the library in the Iowa Veteran’s Home for many years. Doris enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, playing cards, bingo and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include a son, Thomas (Jackie Sutton) Thorson of Elk Run Heights; 2 daughters, Ruth Ann (Rodney) Tomson of Cedar Falls and Mary Jane (Jim) Wright of Yorktown, VA; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph W. Andres of Rockford, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; a brother Dale Andres and a sister, Betty Cooper.
