Sister Dismis Scharinger, age 80, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, passed away Friday evening, January 8, 2016 at the Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. The former Christina Scharinger was born on December 22, 1935 in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, daughter of the late William and Ida (Jacoby) Scharinger. She entered the convent in 1955 and professed her vows in 1957. Sister Dismis earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Silver Lake College, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. She served as an elementary teacher at Sacred Heart and Holy Innocents, Manitowoc; St. Joseph, Oneida; St. Francis, Hollandtown; St. Anthony, Neopit; St. Agnes and St. Philip, Green Bay; St. Joseph, Waukesha; St. Joseph, Rice Lake; all in Wisconsin; Sacred Heart, Ayshire, Iowa and St. Francis de Sales in Manistique, Michigan. Sister Dismis also helped with household tasked at St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc, assisted the Coordinator of St. Francis House of Prayer, Manitowoc, and was a member of the Prayer Apostolate and helped with tasks assigned at Holy Family Convent. Since December 2015, she had resided at St. Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity. Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, two sisters: Gertrude Reindl, Oostburg, and Sister Maria Jose Scharinger, OSF, Manitowoc; sister-in-law Christa Scharinger, West Chester, Ohio. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She is preceded in death by her parents: William and Ida (Jacoby) Scharinger; three brothers: Joseph, Arthur, and Rev. James Scharinger; three sisters and three brothers-in-law: Sister Teresa Clare, OSF, Genevieve (George) West, Dorothy (George) Kuhn, and Jerome Reindl. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday morning, January 11, 2016 at Holy Family Convent Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Finian Zaucha, OFM with burial at Holy Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
