David G. Cosner, 46, passed away at the home of his parents at Lake Ozark, Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. His strong will to live, unwavering faith in God and the love, prayers and support of family and friends carried him through his final months of life.
David Garrett Cosner was born June 1, 1969, in Portsmouth, Va., the son of Joseph G. Cosner and Karen S. Ballard.
David graduated from Boonville High School in 1987. He was employed by Hall and Riley Quarries and Paving Co. and later by APAC paving in Columbia and, most recently, as project safety manager for Kiewit Corp. David was an employee of Cooper County as a deputy sheriff for several years as well as a member of the Boonville Police Auxiliary. He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Boonville. Besides work, he enjoyed and appreciated his family. He was a Missouri sports fan, especially the Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals.
David is survived by the most important person in his life, his 6-year-old daughter, McKenzie Leah Cosner of Washington, Ind.; his parents, Jon and Karen Riley; a brother, Shawn (Kim) Riley of Columbia; sisters, Kim Cosner of Boonville, Kate Roberts of Kansas and Dee Ann Riley (Hugh Nisbet) of Chicago, Ill.; and his best friend and companion, Dana Nible; as well as two nieces and six nephews.
A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Boonville, with Father Pat Dolan officiating. A celebration of David’s life will be held in the church hall immediately after the mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be directed to the McKenzie Cosner Trust for the purpose of her education or to Hospice Compassus.
