Marvin was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church and was a life long member. Marvin graduated from Dexter High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 43rd Engineers Battalion in Japan. When he returned home he attended Iowa State University and started farming with his father.
Marvin married Martha Davis on March 18, 1951 in Washington, Iowa. Marvin and Martha continued farming south of Dexter for the rest of his life. This union was blessed with 4 children: Mark, Terry, Cheryl and Jim.
Marvin held various church offices, taught Sunday School, was an active member of Zion Fellowship Club, the Lutheran Layman's League and served as zone president. He also served as a 4-H leader, Madison County Extension Board, the Earlham Home Health Care Board, and member of the Dexter American Legion Post. Marvin also enjoyed working part-time as a flagman for Gus Construction Co.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Ida, his sister Lucille Boyle, and a sister-in-law Maxine Jobst.
He is survived by his loving wife Martha; son Mark and his wife Karen and children Laura and Sarah of Urbandale, Iowa; son Terry and wife Gayle and children Joshua, Joseph, Katie and Jesse of Tipp City, Ohio; daughter Cheryl Sealine and husband Steve and children Mychele and Nathan of Dexter, Iowa; son Jim and wife Vivian and children Krista and Elisabeth of Spring, Texas; brother Harold Jobst of Dexter, Iowa; brother-in-law Dale Boyle of Earlham, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church, Lutheran Layman's League or Middle River Hospice.
