Mrs. Wanda Gray Carter Matthews, 88, of 601 Nicholson Street, passed away on Friday, January 8th 2016 at Mary Gran Nursing Center in Clinton.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, January 10th at Royal-Hall Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Robert Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at the Clinton Cemetery.
Born on July 23, 1927 in Sampson County, Mrs. Matthews was the daughter of the late Clarence Desmond and Penny Sutton Carter. She was a retired sales clerk and a member of Grove Park Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters: Penelope A. Costin & husband, Michael of Clinton; and Despina “Bebe” A. Williams & husband, Don of Clinton; one sister: Dorothy Phillips Tyndall of Clinton; and two brothers: George N. Carter of Wilmington and C.D. Carter, Jr. of Charlotte. Mrs. Matthews was also blessed with six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Theodore Arven, Jr.; and three husbands: Theodore Arven, Ted Myatt and Norman Matthews.
