KAYSVILLE, UT – Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016 of causes incident to age. He was born November 24, 1925 in Nephi, UT, to Brigham and Zolo Garrett and was the youngest of 11 children. He grew up in Nephi, graduating from Juab High School before entering the Army near the end of World War II. He served as a Private until being medically released.
Following his return, he married his high school sweetheart, Audrey Elaine Hawkins and went on to graduate from Utah State University.
He taught school for 34 years, in Richfield, Duchesne, with the last 29 at Davis High School. During summer breaks he worked for the US Forest Service installing communication systems. Following his retirement from Davis School District, he worked for Hercules.
DeWayne lived most of his life in Kaysville, and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many positions in the church, including service as a Ward and Stake Clerk and as a Stake High Counselor.
DeWayne is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elaine; four daughters and two sons: Latricha (Garn) Butcher, Diane (Dave) Dall, Karen (Jim) Schoneman, Nancy (Steve) Ward, Wesley and Douglas; 21 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Kaysville East Stake Center, 200 S. 600 E., Kaysville. Friends may visit family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 No. Main and Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah at 2:30 p.m.
