James Leroy Cowell, age 77 of Eufaula, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, December 24th, 2015 at the Jack C. Montgomery V.A. Medical Center in Muskogee. He was the son of William Andrew and Nellie Louise (Thompson) Cowell and was born on February 1st, 1938 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

After high school, James joined the United States Navy and soon worked as a Captains Coxen on the ship, USS Denebola. After completing military service, James worked in the construction business until his retirement.

James always liked to sing. He enjoyed singing Karaoke and loved to brag about meeting a couple of famous country & western singers. He loved to tell about going on a cattle drive on the Chisholm Trail and he loved to fish and hunt when he had the opportunity. Most of all, James received his greatest pleasure while spending quality time with his two girls. Those special times when he was a softball coach for his girl's team and being a personal bowling instructor for his children, gave him wonderful memories as he watched the girls grow up.

He is survived by two daughters, Cheri Cowell of Wichita, Kansas and Ginny Farris of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Three brothers, Billy Gene Cowell of Okmulgee, Johnny Q. Cowell of Boley, Oklahoma and Leon Douglas Cowell of Claremore, Oklahoma. Four grandchildren, Timothy Alan Lucas, Krystal Lynn Lucas, Jimmy Preston Lucas II, and Amber Leah Corr. Numerous other relatives and a host of wonderful friends who will be sure to miss him.

Service ~ February 1, 2016 @ Fort Gibson National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Shipman's Cremation and Funeral Service in Muskogee, Oklahoma
