Ilene Kagarice, 85, of Winterset died Monday, February 25, 2013 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 9 at the Van Meter United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Booneville Cemetery, Booneville. A visitation will be held 3 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 8 at Ochiltree's with family present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Westbridge Care and Rehabilitation's Activity Fund.

Inez Ilene Kagarice was born June 3, 1927 in Van Meter, Iowa; the daughter of Homer and Jerena (Kirscher) McNair. She graduated from Van Meter High School in 1945 and in 1946 she married Howard R. Johnson and to this union three daughters were born, Linda, Jane and Karen.

Ilene was married a second time in June of 1968 to Gene Kagarice.

Ilene was a homemaker and a school cook for the Van Meter school for 30 years. Following her retirement, she worked for several years at Fons And Porter's Love of Quilting.

She was a member of the Van Meter United Methodist Church and the V. F.W. Auxiliary. Anyone who knew Ilene, knows of her love of quilting and she belonged to several quilting groups including, Heritage Quilters, Honey Bee Quilters and South Des Moines Quilters. She also loved to travel

Ilene is survived by her three daughters, Linda Aldrich of Van Meter; Jane Silvers of Des Moines; Karen Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO; two step daughters, Jeannie Utsler (Russell) of Winterset; Tammy Kagarice of Independence, MO; four grandchildren (Jerry Aldrich, DeAnn Harvey-Lowden, James Aldrich and Lisa Silvers) and nine great grandchildren (Jesse and Jarrett Aldrich; Emma, Ava and Nora Lowden; Lily Aldrich; Trista Silvers and Brayden and Daniel Mallory). She is also survived by her step siblings, Grace Reed of Winterset; Helen Ballard of New Virginia; Mildred Walters (Sam) of St. Marys; Marvin Deer (Betty) of Des Moines; Ellen Deer of Des Moines; other extended family, a host of friends and many special friends at Westbridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Howard and Gene; a step daughter, Renie Kagarice; a sister, Colleen Patterson; her step mother, Gladys McNair and four step siblings, Agnes Guftafson, Anna Pink and George and Norbert Deer.
