Born July 13, 1940 in Quincy, Janet was the daughter of Thomas Alvin and Gladys McKee Groce. She married Dale C. Gilbert on January 28, 1961, in Plainville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 4, 2015.
Janet was a 1958 graduate of Payson-Seymour High School and was a member of the Pike County Chapter No. 20 Order of the Eastern Star in Barry, Illinois. She loved playing the piano and organ. She also enjoyed doing geneology, crocheting and scrap booking.
Janet taught piano and was employed as a Transcriptionist for St. Mary and Blessing Hospital for over 20 years until her retirement in 2005. She was also employed as Secretery to the Superintendent at Payson/Seymour High School Community School District No. 1 for 20 years.
Survivors include three children, Vickie Nash (Gary) of Fowler, IL, Allen Gilbert of Quincy and Gail Buchanan (Don) of Davenport, IA; six grandchildren, Tim Nash (Amanda), Tracy Montalvo (Joshua), Jonathon Nash, Brandy Cannady (Lucas), Donovan Buchanan (Rebecca) and Heather Schneider (Steve); six great grandchildren, Sage Cannady, Sawyer Cannady, Carolyn Buchanan, Colin Buchanan, Stella Buchanan and Joshua Montalvo II; two brothers, Thomas A. Groce Jr (Lucy) of Virginia Beach, VA and Larry Groce (Teri) of Plainville, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dale.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy with Rev. Rick Fordyce officiating. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Tuesday until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Blessing Heart Center or to Donor's Choice.
