Marne was raised in Sanish and graduated from high school there in 1951. Following high school, he went to Wahpeton State School of Science and studied auto mechanics. In 1957 he joined the Army and served at Fort Carson, Colo., and Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He was honorably discharged, but later returned to active duty in Ludwigsburg, Germany.
Marne was united in marriage to Mildred "Millie" Zahn on Sunday, Dec. 27, 1959. They were blessed with three children. Marne was a man of his word, and after having two daughters, he promised God that he would quit smoking if he could have a son. He never picked up another cigarette after his son David was born.
Marne was a lifelong farmer, spending countless hours in the fields, but never came home too tired to spend time with his family. He loved playing, not only with his kids, but with all the kids in the neighborhood. Marne had a passion for basketball and golf. He was a great supporter of the New Town Eagles. He also loved to travel with his wife, and one of their favorite places was Branson, Mo. Their goal was to visit as many state capitals as possible.
Marland was a servant. He served God, his family and his community. He was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church. He was a volunteer fireman and served with the ambulance service as an EMT. As a driver for Souris Basin Transportation he enjoyed taking people to their scheduled appointments in Minot. During the last summers of his life, Marne loved volunteering at the golf course, spending time at his shed and spending evenings outside at his fire pit. He was happiest spending time in the comfort of his home surrounded by his kids and grandkids. The great-grandkids brought a special smile to his face. He will be remembered as a kind, loving man of integrity.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his brothers, Clare and Royce; his wife, Millie; his grandson, Rueben Hale; and his great-grandson, Shane Matthews.
Marland's loving family includes: his son, David Aubol (Sharon) of New Town; daughters, Jodi Hale (Tom) of New Town and Kari Saarie (Brian) of Freeman, S.D.; grandchildren, Dustin, Nicole, Beth, Megan, Tomas, Isaac, Stephanie (Jody) and Kimberly; great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Jeriah, Sophie and London; brother, Roger; sister, Lorna; adopted son, Scotty Prescott Barns.
