Alfred Holton was the son of Benjamin S. Holton and Mary A. Evans. His father died in the late 1850s in Mercer or Shelby Co., Ohio, and his mother died in Miami Co., Ohio, in 1865, leaving a series of estate guardianships for her five minor children, including Alfred.

Alfred Holton married Almira Downey Aug. 22, 1876, in Jefferson Co., Indiana. They were living in Bartholomew Co. in 1880, but afterward moved back to Jefferson Co. and resided at Dupont, where several children were born.

Almira died after 1889, probably in Jefferson Co., Indiana. Alfred married second to Lucinda (Colvin) Rominger, April 27, 1893, in Bartholomew Co., Indiana. They were living apart by 1900, and divorced Sept. 5, 1905.

Alfred's marked grave at Garland Brook is very near the far northeast corner of the cemetery.
