According to Marsha Moses in the Indian-Captives, Death Stalks the Banks of Kerr's Creek, 21 Oct 2007, says that a "William Gilmore and another man turned toward the mountains to scout for Indians. Concealed nearby, the Indians shot the two men and swooped upon the nearly 100 men, women and children milling around. Two or three younger men advanced toward the enemy, and lost their lives immediately."

This William Gilmore, can't be the son of John Gilmore, Sr., as he was alive on 20 Sep 1763: Page 280.--20th September, 1763. William Gilmore's bond (with Jas. Gilmore, Alex. Dale) as administrator of Wm. Culberts. Lyman Chalkley, Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia: Extracted from the Original Court Records of Augusta County, 1745-1800, Vol. 3, page 81. Also on the same date: (217) James Wordlaw, as greatest creditor, qualified admr. of Thomas Jones. James and John Gilmore qualify admrs. Thomas Gilmore. Wm. Gilmore qualified admr. of Wm. Culberts. Chalkley's Chronicles (as above), Vol 1, p 108.

William Gilmore. Some of those killed in the 2nd Shawnee Indian Raid on Kerrs Creek 17 Jul 1763, who may be buried at the Big Spring (AKA McKee Cemetery). According to Rockbridge Co., VA Cemeteries, Vol. I, Kerrs Creek District, 1990 by Angela M. Ruley.
