Creed Hylton was the son of Wilson and Alsie Hylton. He was the former slave of Archelaus Hylton (1779-1865) of Floyd County, Virginia. After the Civil War ended he moved to Tennessee, but then returned to Floyd County to continue to work for the Hylton family as a sharecropper. He was known on the plantation as “Uncle Creed”. Creed was the last person to be buried in Old Topeco, his brother, Samuel Hylton is also buried in the Old Topeco Cemetery.
