In the early spring of 1883 Mother left Texas with her family on a wagon train heading for Oregon Country. ....mentioned in the diary of Mrs. John (Amelia) Darnall. The Darnall children were Ava, Julia, Betty, Tera and Bert.... The diary indicates the Darnalls were heading for Oregon, but were looking for a place to settle along the way. It ends at Boise City, Idaho, where they arrived August 9,1883, after enduring some hardship along the way. They suffered from the cold a great deal. Mr. Darnall became very ill along with others with what they called mountain fever. Mrs. Darnall had to drive part of the way. She was terrified of the mountains and the primitive roads. Mrs. Darnall died in 1890 leaving Ava the oldest in their family at about 17. Mother (Elizabeth Lucy Webb) said she and Ava clung together for comfort and support. Their mothers (Amelia Darnall & Inez Lucinda Harris Webb) were buried side by side in the old Salubria cemetery. (Bio: Dianna)
