Kent William Whitaker AKA "Big Enough" MORGAN - the "gentle giant" has forged on ahead to continue his mission on the other side, preparing the way for his sweetheart and the children he loves so much.

Kent William Whitaker, age 56, passed on Wednesday morning, April 4, 2007, as the result of a sudden heart attack.

All who knew Big Enough will remember those big hands that were always there to help another, his gracious smile and gentle nature, and how his large frame filled the cab of his track-hoe. His early years were spent working the soil on the family farm, teasing his sisters, and developing a strong sense of charity and gracious giving at the side of his father.

At Davis High School, he excelled in Ag Mechanics and FFA - sharing those talents and desires with his sons. At his father's side, and with his brothers dear, he helped farm half of Davis County. He worked for Foss Lewis Construction before and after his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and later started his own business which he ran with an iron hand and a very tender heart. Everyone who met him left knowing they were his friends.

His legacy will live on in the business he loved so much as his boys will carry on his values of hard work, integrity in a job well done and always giving more than was expected. Kent married Vickie King in 1981, later divorcing. He met his eternal companion and love of his life as the result of a blind date set up by a mutual friend. He and Janeice Hunsaker Kariger were sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden Temple, Sept. 28, 1983.

Kent and his ready-made family worked and resided in Kaysville until 1995 when they moved the family to a farm in Morgan County. He continued to operate his business as well as farm - continuing to build a strong work ethic with his children. Kent's way of relaxing was operating his John Deere tractor on the farm, even after a full day's work on the job.

Kent was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In addition to serving in the Southwest Indian Mission, Kent served in numerous positions of responsibility serving his Father in Heaven and sharing his testimony of Jesus Christ. He was currently serving as a "Church Services Missionary" with his companion at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, in addition to callings in his home ward. Kent is survived by his wife, Janeice; his children: Kristin Kariger, Morgan; Kelly Clark Kariger, Riverdale; Kameron Kent Whitaker, Morgan; and Korey Kent Whitaker, Morgan; and two grandchildren.

He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Judy (Bob) Eriksson, Clearfield; Norman (Annie) Whitaker, Kaysville; Sandy (George) Blamires, Layton; Jean (Phil) Gowans, West Valley City; Marie (Rich) Stevenson, Layton; Cathy (Lavon) Turnbow, Syracuse; David (Carla) Whitaker; and Carri (Jon) Greene, Layton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Olene Stohl Whitaker and Wilma Allan.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 9th at 12:00 p.m. at the Morgan Sixth Ward Chapel, 2700 S. Morgan Valley Dr. Friends and family may call at the church Sunday evening, April 8th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 9th.

Interment, Porterville Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at McKay-Dee Hospital for the valiant efforts to help Kent in the last hours of his life, and the comfort and support they provided. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.walker-mortuary.com
