Mrs. Alma Towson Bumgarner, 90, of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, at Carillon Assisted Living Center. Born Nov. 12, 1925, in Spencer, she was the daughter of the late William Valentine Towson and Bessie Faust Towson. She was educated in Spencer schools and graduated from Spencer High School. Prior to getting married, she was employed at the Navy Department in Washington, D.C., during World War II, a movie theater in Washington, D.C., Carolina Tractor, Salisbury, and Valley Furniture Company, Spencer. Mrs. Bumgarner was a member of South River United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and helped with the seniors. She helped with the Cleveland Lions Club, where she received an award, and was a member of the Bridge Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank McCoy Bumgarner, on Nov. 22, 2010. Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Robert Bumgarner of Mint Hill and Rick Bumgarner of Schenectady, N.Y.; grandchildren Grant Bumgarner and wife Erin, Austin Bumgarner, Allison Bumgarner; great-grandchildren Clayton Bumgarner and Nova Leigh Bumgarner; brother-in-law John Rader of Salisbury. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 26) at Summersett Funeral Home. Services: Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 26) at Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Randy Powell, minister of South River United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the Carillon staff family for their loving care.
