During World War II, she trained at Hunter College (NYC) in 1943 as a member of the Womens Marine Corps. She served her country during the war in the area of Detachment Depot of Supplies, San Francisco earning the rank Staff Sergeant by 1945. During this time, she also married Charles E. Pipgras, US Navy. They were blessed with one son and made their home in San Mateo County, California.
Grace died on a Wednesday May 2, 1968 in Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City having suffered from a heart ailment. She was 55 years of age, and survived by her loving husband, Charles of Atherton, California where they resided. She was also survived by her son of Sacramento, who at the time was serving in the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant. She was a member the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services were held May 5, 1968 at the Johnston Colonial Mortuary, Menlo Park. Interment was made in Acacia Cemetery, Seattle, Washington.
