Milan E. Chovan, age 87, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Arbors of Stow following a lengthy illness.

Born January 13, 1928, he was a life resident of Massillon and son of the late Matthew and Susan (Pavlik) Chovan.

Milan served in the U.S. Army -82nd Airborne Division.

He began his professional career teaching at Uhrichsville High School. He was a teacher, coach and principal for the Massillon City School System retiring in 1980.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Massillon Tiger Booster Club, S.E. Hill Gang, Slovak Singers and Stark County Retired Teachers. Milan was an avid fisherman and gardener. He was a lifetime Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a New York Yankees fan.

Milan is survived by his wife of 65 years, son,
daughters; sister, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his foster parents; John and Susan Jacupciak, brothers; Daniel Bocko and Roy Nussbaum and sister Ann Zimmer.

Visitation will be held at Heitger Funeral Home – Massillon Chapel on Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 1 to 4 P.M.

Funeral service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 10 A.M. with Rev. Daniel Cammarn officiating.

Burial will follow at Massillon Cemetery.
