Mr. Zimmerman attended Frederick County public schools including Mapleville School (which was a one-room schoolhouse) and Liberty High School. He was a dairy farmer until his retirement in October 1993.
He was a member of Frederick County Farm Bureau, the former Capitol Milk Producers, Frederick Elks Lodge #684, and Linganore United Methodist Church, Unionville. He enjoyed farming, spending time with family and friends, hosting parties, watching western movies, and traveling throughout the United States wife his wife, often visiting other farms.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Russell Olden and wife, Susan of Ijamsville and Charles Zimmerman and wife, Karen of New Windsor; two daughters, Victoria Zimmerman of Lewisburg, PA and Carolyn Mobley and husband, Steve of Austin,TX; brother, David "Bucky" Zimmerman of Hanover, PA; and a sister, Irma Anderson of Frederick. He was the devoted grandfather of Connie Onspaugh and husband, Bob, Pam Olden and companion, Dave Cloud, Rusty Olden and companion, Mandy Norwood, Maggie Cheu, Evan Zimmerman, Ross Cheu, Katie Zimmerman, Anna, Raymond, and Richard Zimmerman, and Kira Zimmerman; and great-grandfather of Drew, Kenton and Joshua Onspaugh, David and Dylan Cloud, and Leah Page Olden. He was predeceased by son-in-law, Henry Cheu; granddaughter, Sally Cheu; brother, Charles Zimmerman and wife, Mildred; sister, Elizabeth Woodfield and husband, John; brother-in-law, George Anderson; and sister-in-law, Jane Zimmerman.
The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Rd., Libertytown on Tuesday, Dec. 22 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday,Dec. 23 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. David Coakley, his pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Linganore Cemetery, Unionville.
