FINAL RITES HELD
FRANK LaROCHE SR., PIONEER PHOTOGRAPHER, DIES
(Special to The Herald)
SEDRO-WOOLLEY, April 17--Frank LaRoche Sr., 80-year-old photographer of the state, passed away at his home in Sedro-Woolley early Saturday morning, following a heart attack. Mr. LaRoche came to Seattle in 1889 from Des Moines, Iowa, and established the first studio in that city following the fire. He was generally recognized as the pioneer photographer of Seattle, having taken many pictures of that city in former days and having photographed many of its pioneer citizens. He was engaged in business in Seattle for twenty-five years, his firm being known as the LaRoche Studio. From there he came to Mount Vernon, where he resided for a few months doing some contract work for the American Yukon Pacific Exposition.

Sedro-Woolley had been the residence of Mr. LaRoche and his wife for the past twenty years where he was actively engaged in the photography business until 1926 when he retired. He was a keen sportsman, fishing being one of his most enjoyed hobbies.

He is survived by his widow; one son, Frank LaRoche, Jr, who is engaged in the photography business in Bremerton; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at the chapel of the Higley mortuary in this city with the Rev. Charles Miller, pastor of the local Methodist church, officiating, followed by cremation in Bellingham. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. E. Ronald Rice, accompanied by Mrs. W. O. Douglass. Pallbearers were the following old time friends of the deceased: W. H. Curry, B. D. Vanderveer, Jack Ames, E. R. McLaughlin, Harry Devin, Charles Wicker.
