He was born April 18, 1940 in Bountiful, Utah, the son of Elmo J. and Alice Goodfellow Steed. Kent was raised and educated in Bountiful and attended Stoker Elementary, South Davis Jr. High, and Bountiful High School.
He married Sharlee Riley on April 8, 1960; they were later sealed in the Bountiful Temple on September 20, 2001. He was an active member of the LDS Church.
In April 1963, Kent was drafted into the U.S. Army; after serving two years, he was honorably discharged. As a teen and young married, Kent worked at his father’s Texaco Service Station. He later poured concrete and retired from Alliant Techsystems.
Kent and Sharlee had two wonderful children, Stephanie and Michael, whom he loved dearly. That love extended to his daughter-in-law and grandchildren. He showed his love to many through his quiet kindness and generosity. Those who knew him would describe him as loyal, kind, honest, and hard working.
Kent was a recipient of an amazing gift. His son lovingly donated a kidney to him which extended his life for 13 years. Though he had many health issues, he always remained positive and fought a good fight.
Although we part with deep sadness, we feel Kent will be welcomed into heaven by his parents; his brother, Creed Wheeler; and most importantly, his sweet daughter, Stephanie.
He is survived by: brother, Gordon Wheeler; sister, Susan (Bob) Robison; his wife of 55 plus years; son, Michael (Charli); and three grandchildren: Joey, Mack and Molly.
Services will be held on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Canyon Estates Chapel, 965 East Oakwood Drive, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing in his honor will be held Monday at the chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral.
