WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 22, 1924

Margaret Ellen Applegate, well-known Klamath pioneer, who died at the age of 78 in the family home in Swan Lake Valley yesterday, at 1 p.m., from the effects of a long illness, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel and Elizabeth Grubb.

The Grubb fammily crossed the plains on the South Emigrant road in 1852 and settled in the Rogue River valley in Jackson county.

Margaret Grubb was married to Lucien B. Applegate at the family home in June 1866. In 1869 the family removed to Klamath Agency, where Mr. Applegate, was an employee, and in the following spring established their home in Swan Lake Valley at that time a part of Jackson county.

At the time of settling at Swan Lake, two children had been born to Mr. and Mrs. Applegate, Elmer and Winnie, the first now a resident of Klamath Falls and the latter the wife of C.C. Chitwood, who resides in Jacksonville. Later Fred, Evelyn, Bessie, and Elsie were born to the family. The deceased leaves her husband and all the children, except Bessie, who died at Pasadena, Calif., in 1918.

Funeral services will be held at Whitlock chapel, at 2:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon, the Rev. A. L. Rice officiating. The remains will be interred in Linkville, Cemetery.
