Dennis was a 1960 graduate of Oshkosh High School and worked on many of the class reunions. He was very proud to have served in the U.S. Army. He went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Northwestern University. Dennis worked at the Universal Foundry, Wisconsin Public Service as a lineman, and the City of Oshkosh in the electrical and sign department. Dennis was a master electrician and after retiring in 2001 he started his own electrical company, Valu Electric.
Dennis was on the Oshkosh School Board for 15 years and the Oshkosh City Council for 4 years. He was a member of Mensa, Martin Luther Church, Men's Club and Sunday School Superintendent.
Dennis loved gardening and received a Garden of the Month award. He spent much time at his cabin in the woods, deer and turkey hunting, and fishing. Dennis was a skilled and self taught woodworker. Many know him through his passionate involvement in local politics, and his life long service to others. He enjoyed his card playing and coffee drinking friends.
Dennis is survived by (private). He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry McHugh; brothers-in-law, Edwin Schettl, Aaron Fink, and Doug Weddle; sisters-in-law, Dorothy McHugh and Mary McHugh; parents-in-law Alvin and Doris (Schramm) Schuhart.
Funeral services for Dennis will be held Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Luther Ev. Lutheran Church, Rev. Jeff Berg officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday Dec. 20 from1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside and again on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park. A memorial is being established to the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (in care of Donna Cole 2870 University Ave Room 106 Madison WI 53705).
