It will never be possible to sum up the life of LeRoy Brungardt in a space like this. He accomplished many things professionally whether it was in the classroom, in the office or on the football field. He approached each of his responsibilities with the discipline of a star athlete and military school cadet. He was driven to always put in his best effort no matter how small or large the task. He touched many people's lives over the course of his professional career from his students, who after nearly 50 years still called him Coach, to insurance professionals across Kansas and the nation who looked to him for guidance in their own careers. But, there is no greater area of life where LeRoy's influence and impact can be seen than in his family. His beloved wife Linda spied him on a telephone pole 55 years ago and she immediately knew he was the man she would share her life with. Together, LeRoy and Linda became a strong, beautiful and well-balanced force. They began their family and had five beautiful children, Kathleen, Christine, Maureen, Danny and Eileen. LeRoy loved his children and never missed an opportunity to let them know. He taught each of them the same lessons of love and integrity that he practiced every day in his own life, enriching their lives beyond belief. And as his children began having children, LeRoy assumed the role of Papa and excelled once again. Katelyn, Connor, Casey, Riley, Zachary, Andrew, Jett, Brady and Zoe had the biggest advocate and fan in LeRoy. He never missed an opportunity to celebrate their successes in the classroom or on the athletic field. He was so fiercely proud of them all. His was a life well-lived, full of smiles and laughs, sorrow and tears, victories and defeats. And through it all he was the perfect example of love, joy, faith and finally peace. LeRoy is survived by his wife Linda, his children and their spouses Kathleen and Doug, Christine and Jon, Maureen and Dan, Danny and Steve and Eileen and Jordan, his nine grandchildren, and three brothers. LeRoy will lie in state at Christ the King Catholic Church on Thursday where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a Parish Rosary prayed at 6:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Christ the King Catholic Church or to the Brungardt Family Scholarship Fund at Hayden High School and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
