SUMMERFIELD, Fla. - Emily J. Brown Harper of Summerfield, passed away on Wednesday (Feb. 25, 2015) in her sleep.

Emily was 91 years old and she was born March 14, 1923, in Buffalo, N.Y. ,to LeRoy H. and Lydia Klein Brown. On Thanksgiving Day of 1942, Emily was married to Edward H. Harper of Little Valley, N. ., while he was enlisted in the U.S. Army. They celebrated 67 happy years together.

Emily graduated from South Park High School at age 16 with honors. After graduation, Emily worked for her father at the Liberty Laundry in Buffalo until her marriage. After marriage she worked in Little Valley for Kinfolks Cutlery and Bush Brothers Inc., and then in the Little Valley Central School cafeteria. She retired to move with her family to Florida in 1969.

In Florida, Emily served as a Volunteer Hospital Auxiliary member at Marion Community Hospital in Ocala for 27 years. She also volunteered at the Gainesville Veteran's Hospital. She was a member, and the last chapter president of World War I Auxiliary of Marion County. She was a member of the Belleview Legion Auxiliary Post 284 and DAV Auxiliary Chapter 85 in Belleview. Emily, with her husband, was a member of the Ocala Boat Club, as well as Good Sam's Camping club for many years.

Emily is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Edward H.; and her brother, LeRoy A. (Marie).

She is survived by her five children, Jane Harper Cowart of Palm Coast, Cynthia Harper (Rick) Farnham of Lime Lake, N.Y., Deborah Harper of Ocala, Marcia Harper Bolesta of Summerfield and Douglas E. (Michelle) Harper of Anthony, Fla.; nephew, Paul Van Fossen (Debbie) of Macon, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandson. Emily touched many lives and is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews and their families.
