Pvt Winslowe W Corley was born in Wilson Co., Tennessee, moved with his family to Texas in the 1850's, joined the Confederate States Army 16 Sep 1861 and was killed in action during the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain while serving with Company F, 10th Texas Cavalry. In the defense of Atlanta, Georgia during Sherman's "March to the Sea", he was one of 10 soldiers cited for heroism by General Orders No. 64 for that heroism and service to his country on 10 Aug 1864. He had been killed in action two-months before on 27 Jun 1864.
