WATERTOWN, N.Y. — On Wednesday morning, Dec. 9, Earl R. Shepard, 76, left this earth very peacefully and gently with family and devoted care givers at his side.

Born April 10, 1939, in Black River, a son of Louis Ray and Elizabeth Anabel Shepard, he graduated from Evans Mills High School and received an associate's degree in business from Jefferson Community College.

From 1959 until 1963 he served in the United States Army, after being honorably discharged.

He married Charleen Jobin on Aug. 24, 1963, at St. Henry’s Church in DeKalb Junction with Reverend Whittaker officiating.

Earl was a time keeper for Black Clawson Co., a warehouse supervisor for Northland Electric and retired on Jan. 1, 2002, from the Department of Logistics, as a material supply specialist, Fort Drum, NY. Earl was a member of the Northern New York Coin Club, the Thousand Islands Antique Association and the Disabled American Veterans of Jefferson County. He was an avid reader, loved antiques and attending auctions, and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren.

Surviving besides his wife Charleen, are two sons; Alan R., Clayton, R. Scott and his companion Cheryl Jacobs, Ramah, Colorado; a daughter and her husband, Heather and Richard Hennigan, Bradford, PA; a brother and his wife, Norton and Carolyn Shepard, Watertown; a sister and her husband, Ruth and Robert Lambert, Stewartville, New Jersey; a sister-in-law, Beverly Shepard, Watertown; five grandchildren, Kenneth Shepard, Ashley Jacobs, Victoria Hennigan, Rayanna Hennigan and Camaron Hennigan several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Frank and Harry, and a sister, Marie Burnett, preceded him in death.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, followed by a 1 p.m. Celebration of Life at D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc., 135 Keyes Ave., Watertown, with Rev. Donald Bryant officiating. A reception will follow at Hospice of Jefferson County. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham Street, Watertown, NY 13601 or to a charity of one’s choice.
