Samuel Valentine was born July 18, 1842, in Allen County, Indiana, the 11th and final child of John and Susanna Peters Valentine, who settled in Allen County, having come from Franklin County, Ohio. Samuel was also the grandson of John Henry and Elizabeth Freeze Valentine, natives of Maryland, who settled in Pickaway County, Ohio. Samuel passed away at the age of 7 days on July 25, 1842, in Allen County, and was buried in Watterson Cemetery, Dunn Mill, Allen County, Indiana.
