Jesse J. Armstrong, age 96 years, of Archbold, passed away Monday evening, November 2, 2015, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold. He was born November 25, 1918, near Stryker, the son of Clifford “J.C.” and Barbara (Short) Armstrong. He married Beulah Beck on January 1, 1950, and she preceded him in death on May 25, 1994. A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, he worked at Sauder Woodworking Co. for 37 years before retiring in 1984. He was the first person from Fulton County to serve in Civilian Public Service, working at Dennison, IA for 4 years during W.W. II. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Central Mennonite Church near Archbold.

He is survived by three children, Donna (Randal) Shumaker and Grace Coon, both of Archbold, and Marvin (Cindy) Armstrong of Delta; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant daughter Esther Fae; a son-in-law, Roland Coon; three brothers, Carl, Lloyd and an infant, Robert Armstrong; three sisters, Pearl Sigg, Aretha Hausch, and Hilda Dohm.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at the Central Mennonite Church with Pastor David Elkins officiating. Interment will precede at 9:45 AM in the Pettisville Cemetery. Friends may call at the Fairlawn Chapel from 2 – 8 PM on Friday. Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family suggests that memorials be given to the Gideons International or Central Mennonite Church.
