He was a soldier of Ipswich in King Phillip's War in 1675/76 in Samuel Appleton's Regiment. This is the oldest surviving known record of Bolles in Ipswich. He married Elizabeth Stanley in May of 1682 in Ipswich.
He was the brother of Joseph Bowles the carpenter who died in Ipswich in 1683 leaving a wife Mary Call and two sons John and Joseph.
He was granted rights to Commonage in 1697 and had a meetinghouse seat in 1700.
