John F. Stimac, 85, of Streator passed away Friday, December 4, 2015 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care, Streator surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 A.M. Thursday at St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church, Streator. Rev. Fr. Raymond Guthrie will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Wednesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 6:45 P.M.
Burial will be in Reilly Cemetery in rural Rutland. Full military rites will be accorded by members of the Rutland American Legion Post. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, John Luckey, Charlie Luckey, Jake Chiavene, Kevin Kuntz and Daniel Kuntz; a grandson in law, Robb Reynolds; and Rob Tubbs.
Born December 28, 1929 in Streator he was the son of Gregory and Louise (Burcar) Stimac. He married Patricia A. “Patsy” Dovin on October 20, 1956. She preceded him in death on September 10, 2011.
He is survived by daughters, Joni (Chuck) Luckey of Streator, Julie (David) Chiavene of Streator and Cindy (Kevin) Kuntz of Ottawa; grandchildren, John (Erin) Luckey of Morrison, Cara (Robb) Reynolds of Streator, Charlie (Erin Kallman) Luckey of Chicago, Jake (Michelle) Chiavene of Mt. Washington, Kentucky, Christy (Sean) Parker of Ft. Worth, Texas, Kevin (Leslie) Kuntz of Ottawa, Daniel (Leni) Kuntz of Bloomington and Katie (Rob Tubbs) Kuntz of Streator; 6 great grandchildren; and a sister, Aggie Baldwin of Minonk.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; 8 sisters and 2 brothers.
Raised in the Rutland area he attended Rutland grade schools and Rutland High School.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He worked for United Parcel Service in various positions including a driver for 33 years.
He was a member of the former St. Stephen’s Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Parish. He was also a member of the Rutland American Legion Post.
John enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing the slots. He will be missed by his loving family.
