_____

Mrs. Emma Hearne, wife of the late Senator Campbell S. Hearne, died last evening at 5:30 o'clock at the home of her son, Warren Hearne, in Kearney, Neb., after an illness of long duration.

Death was due to kidney trouble and grief over the demise of her husband whose end came the latter part of August. Mrs. Hearne went to Kearney shortly after burial of Senator Hearne. She had been in poor health for some time prior but her condition was not regarded as serious. Her son, Luke Hearne, received a telegram last night telling the sad news.

Mrs. Hearne was born in Hancock county and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Felt. Her father still resides at Blackwell, Okla. She was married to Senator Hearne thirty-five years ago, while still a resident of Hancock county, and immediately came to Quincy where she had continuously resided with the exception of occasional visits to her children and relatives.

Was a Methodist.

Mrs. Hearne was a devout member of the Vermont Street M. E. church and was active in religious circles. Besides the sons, Luke, of Quincy, Warren of Kearney, Neb., she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. O. J. Browning of Blackwell, Okla.,and two sisters, Mrs. J. B. Ross of Syracuse, Kas., and Mrs. J. W. Million of Blackwell, Okla.

The body will be brought to Quincy and taken to the residence at Thirty-third and Maine streets. Mrs. Hearne was an exemplary mother and wife. She was devoted to her late husband and was at his side constantly during his long illness. Her son Luke received the first telegram yesterday morning which said that his mother was very low.

Mr. Hearne started for Kearney at once on the night train, but received the news of his mother's death while waiting to change trains in Burlington. Mrs. Hearne was widely known in Quincy and adjoining counties and was 55 years old.

NB: Burial location from a later article, which specifies her resting place was at Woodland cemetery in Quincy 'beside her husband.'

___________

Further data: Emma Sarah Felt was the daughter of George and Martha (Hastings) Felt of Hancock county, Illinois.

Emma's aunt Rachel Elizabeth Hastings married Senator Campbell Hearn first; Elizabeth died in Stockton, California in 1875. In 1879, Campbell Hearn married Emma, at her parents' home in Illinois.

Campbell and Emma had four children: Nickerson, a son who died prior to 1914; Warren Felt Hearne, born 1879; Mary Katherine, 1882 - 1929; and Thomas Campbell Luke Hearn, born 1893.

One of the newspaper articles following her death, mentioned she had been a long term sufferer of diabetes. ("She Follows Her Husband," printed Friday 18 September 1914 in the Quincy Daily Herald; page 6.)

NB: Surname spelling varied at times between Hearn and Hearne. Senator Campbell Hearn seemed to like it plainer; some of his children seemed to favor "Hearne." Newspaper articles varied in spelling.
