Like his father he served in the Revolutionary War. He enlisted in Bolton, CT under Lieutenant Olmstead in Colonel Sherman's regiment of Connecticut Line. He was after transferred to Captain Bett's company in Colonel Scammel's regiment. He was at the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown on Oct 19, 1781. It was said "He was a competent and faithful soldier." His father achieved the rank of Major before his final discharge. Jared's headstone says he also was a Major.
On Jan 15, 1784 in Wethersfield, CT he married Elizabeth Wells, daughter of John Wells and Rebecca Butler.
Their children were Sylvester Wells, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Jared.
His wife, Elizabeth, died on Nov 23, 1798 in Bolton, CT.
On Dec 22, 1800 in Bolton, CT he married Caroline Wales Webb, daughter of Joel Webb and Caroline Wales.
They moved from Bolton, CT to Columbia, NH in 1812.
Their children were Charles Chauncey, Caroline Wales, John Webb, William W (all born in CT); These were born in Columbia, NH): Julius, Horatio N, Albert Pitkin, and Julie Ann Frances.
Jared was also predeceased by son Sylvester in 1838; son William in 1840.
