Stephen was born on August 11, 1951 in Clifton Springs, the son of Vernon Shirley and Hazel Griffin. Stephen was an Army veteran of Vietnam. He was past member of the Phelps Vol. Fire Department and the Phelps American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and Nascar. Stephen was an employee of Gleason Works in Rochester for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Joanne Fagner Shirley of Lyons; daughter, Stephanie (TJ) Shirley of Dansville; grandchildren, Alexandria (Brandon) Morrow of Mountain Home, Idaho , Deborah Gleason of Dansville, Stephen and Dorel Cartwright of Dansville; great-granddaughter Elysa Morrow; mother, Hazel VanCamp of Waterloo; brothers and sisters, Barbara Pemberg of Penn.; Babette Hazlette of Clifton Springs, Vernon "Skip" Shirley of Wappinger Falls, N.Y., Beth Sleezer of N.Y.; brother-in-law, Walter (Linda) Fagner of Clifton Springs; lifelong best friend, Andy Gloska and Stephen's feline companion "spooky"; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father Vernon, niece, great-niece and his step-father Benny VanCamp.
