Clyde Board Arthur, 80, of Hurt, died Sunday, January 27, 2008 in his home. He was the husband of Doris Swain Arthur. Born November 30, 1927 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late William Edward Arthur and Addie Peyton Arthur. He graduated from Renan High School, Richmond Business College, Bliss Electrical School in Washington, D.C., a member of New Bethel United Methodist Church, and a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Arthur was a self employed licensed electrician and plumber, a dedicated farmer, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, William Thomas Arthur of Motley; three daughters, Dianne Jackson and her husband Douglas of Chatham, Mary Ann Lanier and Janie Lee Dickson, both of Hurt; a sister, Judy Cannington of Mechanicsville; five grandchildren, Michael Lee Crews, David Arthur, Matthew Arthur, Alyssa Kurtz, and Daniel Lanier, and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Wyatt Edward Arthur; six brothers and four sisters. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Green Hill Cemetery by the Reverend James Brown. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Monday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista.
