He was born on September 24, 1933, to his parents, Robert Vance Caldwell, Sr., and Hazel Fern Riggs Caldwell, both of whom are deceased.

Judson graduated from Trinity High School in 1951 near the top of his class.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Betty Jane Wilson Caldwell, to whom he was married on June 10, 1952, in the Pilgrim Holiness Church by the Rev. R.V. Wallace.

Also surviving are a son, J. William (Joanne) Caldwell, and two daughters, Mary Jane Caldwell and B. Joyce, also known as Joy, Caldwell. A son, Daniel Perry Caldwell, born on his brother’s second birthday, died in infancy.

Mr. Caldwell leaves behind grandchildren, Julia Danielle (Jaymie) Murphy, Nathan William (Taylor) Caldwell, Terri (J.P.) Perry, Joshua M. Boni and Kimberly (Travis) Ankeny; and two great grandchildren, John W., a.k.a. Jack Perry and Abigail R., a.k.a. Abby Perry.

Preceding Jud in death were his siblings, Hazel Ferne Caldwell, Robert Vance Caldwell, Jr., and Mary Martha Kraft Dority. Jud and his sibling were a mixed quartet before his elder sister passed. Also deceased is his step-mother, Ida Noreen Mounts Cox Caldwell.

Uncle Jud is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Caldwell taught Sunday School for many years in the Pilgrim Holiness and Wesleyan Churches. He also had a local preacher’s license granted April 10, 1953.

Mr. Caldwell’s trucking career began at the age of 19 and progressed to heavy trucks at the age of 21. He had driven in approximately 34 states and Canada in Inter-State and Foreign Commerce. Twenty-seven of his fifty-two years of experience was in the Household Goods Classification. He also hauled other commodities including steel, lime, building materials and water. He was a certified inspection mechanic along with his CDL licensing and endorsements.

Mr. Caldwell worked at various companies during his lifespan. His trucking experience began by hauling feed to area farmers from the Purina Feed Store located on Henderson Ave. He worked for Guthrie’s and Eclipse hauling steel and limestone and doing mechanical work in the garage. He hauled freight for Suwak Trucking. His household good experience began at Kelly’s Moving & Storage. He then worked for Mr. Kelly’s son-in-law, William J. Moore, Sr. at McKean and Burt (Wheaton) and continued working for Mrs. JoAnn Moore and son, William J. Moore, Jr., after William Sr.’s death.

Mr. Caldwell opened his own Household Moving Company, Kingsway Carriers, in 1985. It was ICC approved under a 48 State Authority and continued until a heart attack necessitated a change of job status in 1995. He also worked in conjunction with Fife Moving & Storage during this time frame doing household goods moving and mechanical work in the garage.

He worked on a part-time basis for over 25 years for his nephew at Al’s Water Service, Washington. There he was a truck driver, repairman, installed water systems, cleaned cisterns, mechanic, and occasionally trained new drivers.

Jud also was at the beck and call of many who needed help with electrical, plumbing, carpentry and other of his many talents, to which he gave God the credit.

Jud enjoyed reading his Bible, of which he could quote much of it from memory. He also enjoyed attending Southern Gospel Music Concerts.
