The Larkin Chew Johnston Family Bible is still in existence today. This Bible was printed in 1605. I have the cliff notes for what is written in it.

On the inside cover Larkin wrote "This book was given by my father William Johnston to Larkin Johnston."

Inside the back cover of the book William Johnston wrote "Wm Johnston was born December 1, 1697, it being on a Tuesday. This book---L3:3:3 currency for Wm Johnston." His signature appears below these two lines.

So we at least know that Larkin's father was named William Johnston. But very few researchers have his correct date of birth.I consider this to be a new project and am gathering leads but not writing anything in stone yet.

This is what I have so far. William Johnston may have had up to 3 wives. The 1st, Ann Mary Chew. She died in 1742. The 2nd, Elizabeth (maiden name unknown, 1744. The 3rd, Betty/Betsy Wyatt Taylor, widow, 1748/49.

There is evidence of a christening of a William Johnston in New Kent County in August 1697. But this doesn't jive with our William Johnston being born on Dec. 1, 1697.

One researcher has stated he has seen a DAR certified copy of a marriage document between William Johnston and Ann Chew....and his name was listed as Sir William Johnston. Other researchers use the name Capt. William Johnston, still others use the name Lord William Johnston.
This comes from the Will of one of his sons, Larkin Chew Jr. (1698-1770)"my body to be interred by my deceased father (William) on the land I gave Beverley Stanard. (which was 528 acres in 1852.)The above information was written by Mickey Crimm (#47282012).

Gravesite Details

William is 16 degrees from Queen Elizabeth II of the Commonwealth Realms according to Wikitree.com. I am unable to find where he is buried. [Note by previous site manager. There is very uncertain evidence for the connection.]
