Rachel was the daughter of Abraham & Mary (Counts) Kiser.

Her mother, Mary, born on November 12, 1829, died in Russell Co, VA on November 17, 1900, and was buried in Spruce Pine Hollow Cemetery in Castlewood.

Noah & Rachel lived on a farm near Carbo. She was a member of the Baptist Church. In August 1977, Lucy Sutherland Pagenhardt wrote, "We loved the picture of 'Granny Rach' on her 100th birthday! We knew her so well for so many years - she was walking around the hill, picking up pieces of wood, to cook with or heat in her checked gingham apron., The last time we saw her she was 102, I think. When we left, she stooped down on the porch to kiss us goodbye. We were standing on the ground below her - no arthritis - no nothing!"
