Elizabeth Winthrop Beach, the 5th of six daughters of Hunn Carrington Beach and the former Miss Mary Charlotte deKoven, was born in the bounds of Middletown, Connecticut on September 14th 1847.

On May 19th 1869, Elizabeth married Joseph Wright Alsop, III with whom she had the following known children:
Aimée Elizabeth Alsop 1870–1924
Mary Oliver Alsop 1872–1889
Elizabeth Winthrop Beach Alsop 1874–1893
Joseph Wright Alsop IV 1876–1953
John deKoven Alsop 1879–1926
Francis Johonnot Oliver Alsop 1881–1946
Charles William Dabney Alsop 1883–1888
