Francis Johonnot Oliver Alsop was born in 1881 in Middletown, Connecticut and was educated at Groton Academy and Yale University. He was a cotton broker by profession with an office in Boston. In 1907 Alsop married Natalie Hooper (1880-1937), daughter of John Francis Hooper), of 29 North Russell Street in Milton, Massachusetts. After his wife's death he sold his 7-acre estate in Milton which was developed into single-family subdivision along Century Lane.
