Charlotte Caroline Peckham Walters the daughter of Roy and Minnie (Hoy) Peckham was born May 29, 1918 on a farm in Republic County, Kansas, south of Hardy, Nebraska. She departed this life on November 22, 2015 at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 97 years.
Charlotte received infant baptism at the Jewell Lutheran Church southwest of Hardy and then had catechism and membership in Hardy, NE at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Later she became a member of the Hardy Union Church, serving on the church council, Sunday School teacher, member of the Women’s Christian Union and Hardy Women’s Club.
Charlotte attended country school at Rosemound District #76 Republic County, KS and graduated from Hardy High School with the class of 1936. In 1940 Charlotte graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Home Economics and taught homemaking education in schools in Nebraska. During World War II she taught at the country school in Rosemound District #76.
Charlotte was united in marriage to Franklin C. Walters in 1984. She loved the land and held dear the land her maternal grandparents had homesteaded in 1870.
Charlotte devoted many years to caring for older family members, the church and community.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Franklin C. Walters in 1998 an infant sister and sister Louise Brooks in 1994.
Survivors include her cousin Stanley Peckham of Smyrna, NY; nephew James R. Brooks of Los Gatos, CA; great niece Hannah R. Brooks of Fresno, CA; great nephew Roy Brooks of Felton, CA; niece Anna Hoover and husband Tom of Denver, CO,great nephew Stephen Hoover and wife Sabine and their two children of Denver, CO, and great nephew Michael Hoover and wife Patricia and their two children of Westchester, CA; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday 2:00 PM, December 12, 2015 at the Hardy Union Church. Danny Jackson will be officiating. Burial will be held in the Rosemound Cemetery, south of Hardy, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family at wmsfh.com. Memorials may be given to the Superior Library Foundation. Visitation will be held on Thursday December 2nd, and Friday December 3rd from 10 am to 5 pm at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Superior. Casket Bearers: Roger Kintigh, Ryan Mikkelsen, Max Bean, Michael Gillilan, Jason Gillilan and Sean Gillilan. Honorary Casket Bearers: Ron Hofts, Scott Meyer, Marlin Watson and Lawrence Bothwell. Williams Funeral Home of Superior, NE is in charge of the arrangements.
