Fern Schwartz age 88 of Winner, SD passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday August 9, 2006 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center Nursing Home.

Fern Schwartz was born April 12, 1918 near Carter, South Dakota to Roscoe and Lillian (Galbraith) Goodsell.

She graduated from Hamill High School in 1934 and began her teaching career after attending Black Hills Teacher's College. She later continued her college studies and graduated from Southern State Teacher's College in Springfield, South Dakota. Fern taught for nearly 40 years in the Winner area and has worked and served in several other capacities since teaching.

She married William "Bill" Schwartz on July 12, 1943. To this union, six children were born. Through the years Fern found great joy in giving of herself to all her family and friends. She enjoyed baking cookies, pies and cinnamon rolls for her children and grandchildren and birthday cakes for nearly everyone she knew. She also enjoyed her weekly Boggle games with her dear friend. She was a member of the Winner Assembly of God Church and her faith in God was very evident in every aspect of her life by her service to her family, her church and her community.

She is survived by her children: Bill and his wife Lorrie of Topeka, Kansas; Fred of St. Paul, Minnesota; Fern and her husband DeWayne Truhe of High Point, North Carolina; Alice and her husband Larry Graham of Topeka, Kansas; Shirley and her husband Walt Niebaum of Sioux City, Iowa; Coni and her husband Jim Halverson of Winner, South Dakota; twenty grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; four sisters: Faye Jurgenson. Joyce Taylor, Bernice Mills, and Geneva Zemlicka and three brothers: Leroy "Bud", Paul, and Eddie Goodsell.

Funeral services at the Assembly of God Church in Winner. Burial will be in the Winner Cemetery.
