"Henry G. McCord of Chapel Hill died at his home Monday night of cancer age 63 years. Buried at the family burying grounds. He was an ex confederate soldier (is believed to have been a courier for Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest). He is survived by a wife and several children besides a number of brothers and sisters. Mr. R.A. McCord, Mrs. Nannie Woods of this city and Mrs. D.S. Clayton of the Cornersville road are among them." Lewisburg Tribune, 1910.

J.N. Holt, Cowden's pastor, wrote a eulogy which stated in part "He was cultured and refined, clean and dignified. His very presence was commanding...his splendidly developed intellect made him an influential man in his country in promoting religious and educational interests...It was always a pleasure to spend an hour in the midst of his family"

Children: Marks Wright, Harris Ogilvie, Mary Minella, Joseph Cowden, Chamilla Sue, Sarah Williams, Nancy "Nannie" Laura

-Graduate from Cumberland University in 1873, married Cynthia in 1877 and became owners of the Williams/McCord home after Cowden's death in 1879.
