JAMES C. SALYER, age 88, of Waldo, died Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Marion General Hospital.

Jim was born on the 6th of April 1927 in Richwood, Ohio to the late Jesse James and Edna Faye (Blanton) Salyer. Jim graduated from Waldo High School in 1945 and he served his country in the U.S. Army from June of 1945 to November of 1946 during World War II. After an honorable discharge, Jim worked for the Marion Power Shovel, owned and operated Salyer's Sohio in Waldo and later the Marion County Auditor's Office. Before retiring in 1994 Jim worked for The State of Ohio Treasurer, Mary Ellen Withrow.

Jim married Elinor J. Klingel on July 3, 1949. She preceded him in death on December 25, 1988.

Jim was a 70 year member of the American Legion Post 605 in Waldo, Ohio and was a former member of the Waldo Sportsman Club and The Marion Moose. He enjoyed the Cincinnati Reds, watching NASCAR and tending to the bird houses outside his front window. Above all, he was a Christian man who will be missed deeply by his family and Peace Community United Church of Christ.

Jim will be missed by his children, Ronald (Gwen) Salyer of Marion, Debra Honaker of Marion, and Nancy Salyer of Delaware; grandchildren, Heather Salyer, J.R. Honaker, Joshua Honaker, Justin Honaker and Brandi Hinton; great-grandchildren, Cassie Plyman, Casyn Breece, Samantha and Brooklyn Honaker, and Owen and Brielle Stone. Also surviving are siblings, Carl Salyer, Robert (Marti) Salyer, Gary (Sandy) Salyer, Dave (Joyce) Salyer and Pat (Paul) Coonfare; brother-in-law Jack Smith; in-laws, Harry (Janie) Klingel, Delly Klingel and Marcia Gray; numerous nieces and nephews, and special friend Evelyn Seitter and her family, Kathy Haegele and family; Tom (Linda) Seitter and family and Karen (Cengiz) Kurkcu and family.

Jim was predeceased by brother, Steve Salyer; sister, Betty Smith and in-laws, Wanda Klingel, Virginia Fix, Joan (Jerry) Baker, Dick (Janet) Klingel; and son-in-law Jerry "BO" Honaker Jr.

Friends may call at Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 2 until 5 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Peace Community United Church of Christ Monday, November 23, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Joel Fetter officiating. Burial will follow at Waldo Cemetery with Military Honor's presented by The Marion County United Veterans Council.
