Sweetwater, Aug. 17 - The bodies of an uncle and a nephew, both brought home for re-burial after war-time deaths on foreign soil, now lie side-by-side in the Fulghum family plot in Sweetwater Cemetery.
When the body of Sgt. William Henry Fulghum, who was killed in England during World War II, was re-buried in Sweetwater Cemetery Sunday afternoon, it was laid in a grave alongside his uncle, Frank Fulghum, who was killed in France during World War I, and whose body, like that of his nephew, was returned to the States a few years after the war.
Sgt. William Henry Fulghum was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fulghum of Snyder, one-time residents of Sweetwater. He spent most of his boyhood in Sweetwater where his father was a building contractor. The family moved from here to Dallas and young Fulghum met and married Margaret Bailey of Dallas, a niece of Tom Bailey of Sweetwater. He worked as a Texas Highway Patrolman and was stationed at Brady before he went into the service. His parents had moved to Snyder after his marriage.
Stationed in England and serving in the Military Police section of the Ninth Air Force, Sgt. Fulghum was killed in a highway accident near Cambridge, England on July 16, 1944. He was 26.
Military Rites
Funeral preceding re-burial was held at First Baptist Church in Snyder Sunday afternoon. Graveside rites were in charge of the Sweetwater Post of the VFW and the Sweetwater Post of the DAV. Patterson Funeral Home directed.
Burial was to be in the Fulghum plot, where Sgt. Fulghum's grandfather, the late H. P. Fulghum of Sweetwater, and his uncle, Frank Fulghum, who was killed in France, are already buried.
Survivors in addition to his parents are his wife, Mrs. Margaret (Bailey) Fulghum of Dallas; and their 5-year-old daughter, Vickie Adis Fulghum, also of Dallas. Sgt. Fulghum's paternal grandmother, Mrs. H. P. Fulghum, lives in Dallas, as does his only paternal uncle, Walter Fulghum, who was here with his family for the rites.
