Deborah Marie Whalen Zeigler, of Chillicothe, passed from this life on November 16, 2015 at Heartland of Chillicothe following an extended illness, surrounded by family.

She was born May 22, 1955 in Columbus, OH to Rev. William “Bill” and Patsy “Peg” Utterback Whalen Sr. Survivors include her mother, of Chillicothe and seven siblings. She was blessed with 13 nieces and nephews, 3 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews, all who were very special to her. She was preceded in death by her father and a nephew, Joseph Whalen.

Debbie graduated from Pioneer School and was involved in many extracurricular activities including cheerleading and bowling. She loved arts and crafts and was known for her joy in making cards for family, friends, and the other Heartland residents. Her artwork can be seen throughout the building. Debbie was an active member of the Heartland community and touched everyone she met.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the kindness and compassion shown Debbie and her family, and by Heartland Hospice and the Heartland of Chillicothe staff.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Friday at St. Mary Church, Rev. Lawrence Hummer, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 pm Thursday at Haller’s, where a wake service will be held at 8:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 1058 Columbus St., Chillicothe, OH 45601 or St. Mary Church, Restoration Project, 61 S. Paint St., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
