Mae Ethel Franklin Henkel, a lifetime resident of Curtis Bay, died from complications of osteoporosis Jan. 19 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. She was 95.

Born May 12, 1911, in Masonville-Fairfield, she was educated at Fairfield Elementary School.

Mrs. Henkel took over and ran her family's grocery business, Henkel's Grocery in Curtis Bay, which operated for more than 30 years. She formerly worked for the National Biscuit Co. and Sharpe & Donne Co.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a former member of the Ladies Aid Society at the church.

Mrs. Henkel enjoyed spending the weekends at her summer home at Taylor's Island on the Eastern Shore and fishing there. She also enjoyed gardening and crocheting, and was an avid reader.

She was preceded in death in 1994 by her husband of 64 years, Vernon W. Henkel Sr.

Survivors include one son, ... of Curtis Bay; four daughters, ... of Willards, ... of Salisbury, ... of Severna Park and ... of McLean, Va.; one brother, ... of Brooklyn Park; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Jan. 24 at Gonce Funeral Service. Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
